Messenger is a long-established leader of suppliers in the funeral industry. Founded over a century ago, it has successfully provided funeral homes with quality products and services. As the company has evolved throughout the years, the scope of its services and mission has also grown and adapted to the needs of its customers. In 2009, Messenger’s evolution reached a point that required a more comprehensive web presence to both serve its customers more effectively and to continue standing out amongst their competitors as an industry leader. This web presence included a refreshed and enhanced website as well as integration of interactive web marketing tools.

The Challenge

Messenger LLC chose Aptera to develop their new website because they knew the tone of their online material must reflect the solemn professionalism of a leader in the funeral products industry. What Aptera offered that set them apart from other companies was the promise of a customized web design based on close collaboration between Aptera’s development team and staff members at Messenger. The online presence the site established had to be consistent with the values and identity that have defined the business since Frank Messenger founded it in 1913, while at the same time appealing to modern web-savvy customers. And Messenger’s marketing team was eager to take advantage of social media venues to reach new clients so that the company’s web presence could extend beyond the main site.

The Solution

Aptera’s design team consulted extensively with Messenger before creating a customized blueprint for the site. The developers used muted colors for the background and stylish, understated formats for the text to highlight Messenger’s professionalism while drawing users’ eyes to attractive presentations of their products. The text emphasizes the company’s storied history and its commitment to carrying on a long tradition of quality service. All the pages have a product search feature, and the product pages themselves are arranged hierarchically, guiding users from categories to specific items. And Aptera’s web marketing experts collaborated with Messenger’s own marketing team to create a strategy for an email and social media campaign.

The Results

Messenger’s Marketing Director Barrie Fleetwood says, “The web site solution that Aptera provided us is the crown jewel for us because it is out there for our customers to see.” The site connects users with extensive product information without overwhelming them. And it suggests high standards of professionalism and customer service while upholding Messenger’s commitment to tradition. Now that the website is up and running, Messenger and Aptera are eagerly awaiting opportunities to work together in the future.
